Hi James,

Not sure if my comments here relate to the spot data that Colin refers to but in terms of spatial biodiversity data represented by "ecological units" SNA are relevant to this topic. Waikato Regional Council has a large amount of SNA spatial data, stored in MS Access Geodatabases and Oracle Spatial, and aspatial SNA data (attributes) stored in Excel spreadsheets. We are well aware of the risks and challenges facing us if we continue to keep maintaining and storing the data in this disaggregated way while the data moves into an implementation phase. We are considering better database storage options but at the same time we are aware of the IRIS, EBOP/AC and GW projects going on and do not want to "re-invent the wheel" if one of these projects can offer a product that will meet our SNA database needs. Problem is how long would we have to wait in this risky position before we might know if one of these databases suits us or not? With IRIS I have heard a suitable biodiversity product could still be a couple of years away.

Thanks
Derek
