My apologies for the late start, and thanks to Jim McLeod for helping to
get the gear set up. Sadly, I did not manage to make an audio recording
of the meeting :-(. What we did get was some great inter-sectoral
engagement, and the opening of a number of topics that will attract
ongoing discussion here in Dataversity.
There's a summary below (be sure to click the button, if you are
viewing via the web), and I'll ask all the contributors to open separate
topics for the issues they raised if they have not already done so.
I also did manage to take some photos of those who were present in the
meeting room at GWRC. They're visible below, if you view this post on
the website.
My primary conclusion from the meeting is that for all the complexity of
biodata management problems, Dataversity members can benefit from the
global and national communities that are working to increase alignment
and provide tools, standard and systems. Although there are many
constraints in regional and territorial authorities, problems like
metadata standards, data collection methods, and even use of systems do
not have to solved multiple times. There will be no quick fixes. Our
work here will require small but steady steps forward. As we now have
this conversation open, we are in a good position to keep it going. I
will keep inviting people into the group, and curating this community's
resources. Please, ask questions, or share your ideas. You should find
plenty to catch your interest, below.
cheers,
