SNA Systems Audio-Conference

Hi All,

Learn about SNA systems in other
councils, including systems you
could potentially get access to.

Share what you know about SNA,
systems and potentially share
your system with other councils.

If one or both of these are relevant to you, you are invited to
participate in a one-hour audio-conference on SNA Systems at 14:00 on
Thursday 19 November.

Almost every council in New Zealand has some need to manage data about
Significant Natural Areas (aka Significant Native Habitats). Does this
mean that every council should develop their own system to manage this
data? Or is there potential to share systems or collaborate to build
shared systems?

The SNA Systems audio-conference will provide a chance to swap notes
about SNA systems.

Please bring along a brief story about how SNA data is managed at your
Council.

Hi Dan,

Apologies for the delay in replying but I would be keen in
participating. Currently North Shore City Council is updating its PNA
Programme known as Sites of Ecological Significance (SES), Ecological
linkage Areas (LA) and Sites of Special Wildlife Interest (SSWI). The
main objectives for the update is to review methodology and ranking
criteria (ecosystem focus rather than just vegetation class and type),
to identify ecological change e.g. habitat loss/gain, condition, threats
(weeds and animal pests), to integrate into one ecological system and to
ID long term trend monitoring sites (to measure ecological integrity).

I had previously approached MfE asking if there is a national acceptance
on using a generic name for ecological information systems as different
LA's and even DoC have different labels e.g. SES, SNA, SEA, NAES, SSWI,
SSBI etc and different survey methodologies. Advice was that there
wasn't but DoC was working on the MHMS database which could be relevant.
