Below is a draft plan for a two-day Dataversity workshop to be held in
March next year.

Dataversity Workshop on Local Government Biodiversity Data Management

Two days in March 2009. Probably in Wellington. Venue to be decided.

The workshop will be held over two days, but it will be feasible to
attend one day or the other, if that is all that is possible.

The purpose will be to build awareness of biodata management practices
and trends within local government and related sectors, and to identify
opportunities for participants to take advantage of those.

Day One: Core Dataversity Members Only

- Introductions: Who is who and who is doing what
- Showcase: Demonstrations of in-house systems, eg ARC with Ecobase,
EBoP, EW, Horizons?
- Conclusions: Opportunities & action plan

So far, I have three expressions of interest in this. I'd like to progress the
planning for it, but need more of an indication of interest before I can do
that.

Workshop. We are heading into regional plan hearings for the water

What is the Workshop fee? I can't arrange booking until I have the cost and I
can't see it on your info Dan...

There is no fee for this workshop. You will only have to budget for

Hi All,

Below is a link to a report on the two-day Dataversity Workshop that was held
on 19 and 20 March 2009.

My thanks to all who participated in the workshop, and contributed to the
contents of the report.

The report contains two key outputs created by workshop participants — a sketch
of the state of Local Government Biodata management, and a list of the
opportunities for productive collaboration around biodata management. These
provide a clear direction and actions for ongoing work in this community.

The report also contains a list of the participants and presentations at the
workshop, and a summary of the feedback provided by participants.

The last workshop was so good I'm sure the next will be even better.

It'd be good to get a chance to talk thoroughly about central government's data
access and management work as this is important for local government, the
geospatial information community and the environmental RS&T sector. I'm
confident that by March there will have been some significant and satisfying
progress.

I know there's been rather a deathly silence from the MoRST end on this but it
belies a lot of rather exciting activity. Every time I draft an update to post
on Dataversity something new happens and I have to change it!

An update - even if it becomes out-of-date pretty fast -will come ASAP.
